For 55 years, The Arts Council of Wayne County has been supporting creative endeavors in our area with events, exhibitions, and one adorable mascot: a black cat appropriately named Artie. The many fun upcoming dates on the council’s calendar include an Artwalk, a live jazz performance, and drawing and painting sessions. The center also offers volunteer opportunities and is involved in philanthropic efforts in the community. The happenings are as diverse as Black History Month celebrations, knitting instruction, voice and music lessons (ever wanted to learn to play the ukulele?), and even community drum circles – there’s something for everyone!
An Eggciting Class for Easter
On Saturday, April 6 this year, kids ages 6 to 14 can come to the council at 102 North John Street to decorate Easter eggs. (You can’t miss the studio entrance; look for the rainbow-painted pig standing sentinel at the front door!) All participants can use any of the art supplies – with their imaginations at the helm, the sky is the limit. The class costs just $15 per child, and all of the supplies are included. And the session runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., so parents can take a break and explore the Arts Council’s first-floor gallery and Art Market, or stroll the booming surrounding neighborhood, filled with restaurants and shops.
