Homemade Healthy Turkey Burgers with Lettuce and Tomato

Some people prefer traditional beef burgers, but if you want to try something different, here’s a recipe for you. These Mediterranean turkey burgers aren’t just delicious but also nutritious. Even your kids will love them.

Incredibly Yummy

For one thing, these Mediterranean turkey burgers are juicy and tender. For another, they’re made with classic ingredients found in a lot of Mediterranean dishes. One bite and there’s a good chance you and your family will never go back to beef.

Ingredients

Here are the ingredients you’ll need for these amazing burgers.

Burgers

  • 1 pound of ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 1 tablespoon garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (fresh only)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Toppings

  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices of lettuce
  • 1/2 cup Tzatziki sauce (while you can use store-bought, homemade sauce tastes better)
  • 4 slices of tomato (cut 1/4-inch thin)

Directions

To make the best burgers you’ve eaten, follow these directions.

Step One

In a large skillet on medium-high heat, place two tablespoons of oil. You’ll need to heat it for roughly 2 minutes or until you hear it sizzle.

Step Two

Add the onion and garlic. Next, sauté them for about two minutes until they’re lightly browned and tender. When finished, transfer these ingredients to a plate. Set them aside so they’ll cool somewhat.

Step Three

Put the turkey, sauteed ingredients, breadcrumbs, dill, lemon juice, cumin, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Then, mix everything well using either a wooden spoon or a sturdy spatula. In addition, you can simply use your hands if preferred.

Step Four

Roll the turkey into a firm ball. That way, all the ingredients will bind, making the burgers firmer and easier to cook. Place this back in the bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and put it in the refrigerator for roughly 30 minutes. However, you can also store this in the refrigerator overnight.

Step Five

When you’re ready to make these Mediterranean turkey burgers, pull the bowl out of the refrigerator. Now, divide the ball into four parts of equal size. Next, roll each one with your hands into a ball. When finished, flatten the balls to form burgers. Overall, you want them one-half-inch thick.

Step Six

In a clean cast-iron skillet on medium-high heat, add the remaining one tablespoon of oil. Again, allow it to heat for about two minutes or until you hear it sizzle. Afterward, add the patties to the skillet. Cook the first side between three and five minutes so they’re nicely seared.

You’ll then turn the burgers, cooking the other side for an additional three to five minutes. If you use a meat thermometer, the inside of the burgers should reach 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
