Ways You Can Express Your Gratitude This Season

Writing a thank you note

Writing a thank you noteThis time of year, it’s easy to recognize what you are thankful for. And that’s lucky, because research has shown that consciously practicing gratitude will retrain your brain to see the positive things in light of the negative. Being thankful for what you have and expressing it to those around you will make you less stressed, more optimistic, and more fun to be around. We pulled these five simple gratitude practices from Grateful. Put these into regular practice and anxiety, stress, and feelings of apprehension will begin to melt away!

Ritualize Your Gratitude Practice

Start your morning off with a gratitude ritual. Close your eyes. Create an inventory of everything you’re grateful for in your life. Say it out loud, “I am grateful for – my loved ones, my job, and (fill in the blank).” Do this every morning for a week and see how you feel. Keep it up for a month and your outlook on life will change substantially.

Write a Thank You Note

There’s nothing quite like receiving a heartfelt “thank you” card from someone showing appreciation for something you did. It feels nice to be noticed and appreciated. Set aside an hour per week to write a thank-you to those who positively impacted your life that week. It doesn’t need to be a formal card. Send an email if that is easier.

Be Grateful for Today!

Show your appreciation to the day every morning. It is such a miracle that we can experience this life and every day is a blessing. Acknowledge it, give thanks, and understand how lucky you are. Now tackle the day with ferocity. Go to bed, wake up, and repeat.

 Do A Favor Without Expectations

If you see someone in a pinch, offer to help them out. If you find that you can help a co-worker, friend, or even a stranger out of a bind …. do it. As often as possible, look for opportunities to be of service to others.
