If you haven’t been to a Wood Ducks game this season, you’re missing out! There’s no better way to spend an evening with family or friends than to hang out at historic Grainger Stadium and watch some baseball. Not only will you enjoy an exciting game. You’ll get just as much enjoyment out of experiencing the stadium itself.

Stadium History

Before there was Grainger Stadium there was Grainger Park, named after Jesse Willis Grainger, a prominent farmer in Eastern North Carolina who donated the land for shared use by the Kinston Eagles and the Grainger High School Red Devils. It was located behind the high school, a few hundred yards from where the stadium sits today, and was used as both a baseball and football field. The current Grainger Stadium was constructed by the City of Kinston in 1949, making it the Carolina League’s second oldest ballpark. The team has seen a few acquisitions and name changes over the years. But they’re currently enjoying their 5th season as the Down East Wood Ducks, a Single-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers.

The Stadium Today

Grainger Stadium seats 4,100 fans. The staggered outfield wall starts at 12’6″ at the left field foul pole and descends to 8′ tall at the right field foul pole. It’s 395′ to the centerfield wall. One of the favorite features at Grainer Stadium is Mother Earth Pavilion. Offering the best views in the stadium, this open air entertainment space can be reserved for groups of 25 or more. Large parties can get discounted ticket rates and even enjoy all-you-can-eat picnics while they watch the Woodies play. Kids can join the Lil Dewds Kids Club and enjoy a variety of benefits all season. Birthday packages are also available for any young fans who want to celebrate their special day at the ballpark.
